Century-Old Delaware Entity and Name Management Company Announces Plan to Offer New Top Level Domains in 2005
ICANN-Accredited Corporation Service Company®, the Sole Registered Agent and Domain Name Registrar Combination Delivering Name Management and Entity Management Services, to Add .eu, .travel, .post, .mobi and .jobs to suite of Top Level Domains for Customers
Wilmington, DE, December 16, 2004 -- Corporation Service Company® (CSC), the leading registered agent, providing a portfolio of services including compliance and governance; litigation and matter management; corporate legal; UCC and motor vehicle; and IP management, today announced it plans to offer five new top level domains (TLDs): .travel, .post, .eu, .mobi and .jobs, to its product and services suite in 2005. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced it began commercial and technical negotiations with .travel and .post sponsors in October of this year. ICANN will undertake this process with each of the sponsors for the five domain names, and is in active negotiations with the European Registry for Internet Domains (EURid) regarding .eu. Each domain name will undergo a sunrise period (or pre-registration period), which will allow trademark holders to register the domain names associated with their marks. Without this period, trademark holders could be subjected to the unscrupulous practices of so-called cybersquatters who buy newly released domain names associated with particular brands or trademarks of certain companies and ransom them to those companies. Once the TLDs qualify for purchase, CSC, an ICANN-accredited registrar, plans to offer them to customers worldwide. CSC already offers numerous general TLDs (gTLDS) and country code TLDs (ccTLDs) through its subsidiary, Corporate Domains Inc. “Given our excellent customer service, our corporate focus, and our auto-renewal policy which does not allow customers’ domain names to lapse unintentionally, CSC has positioned itself as the registrar of choice for large companies with complex domain name business requirements,” said Gretchen M. Olive, Associate General Counsel, IP Services, at CSC, and a recent IP Law & Business panelist in Washington DC on “Safeguarding Your Customer Data While Protecting Your IP on the Internet,” and moderator of “Somebody's Using My Brand on the Web! Now What?” at the October 2004 ACC annual meeting in Chicago. “Analysis shows our services are valued most by companies in growth mode.” Ms. Olive refers to a study done at the Harvard Law School. According to a 2003 study of domain name registrars by Ben Edelman at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School, “Corporate Domains shows increased popularity among companies with rising ranks (among the Fortune 1000*) versus among those with falling ranks.” Brief Overview of planned usages for TLDs: About Corporation Service Company |
